After hearing of other baby banks across the country we realised that there was not this level of support for families within our own community. After some research we discovered how much of a positive impact a baby bank would have for local families in what are exceptionally hard times. We therefore decided to create our own and founded First Steps Baby Bank in 2024.

We are two friends, both mums ourselves and understand how hard the pressure of motherhood can be, especially if you are struggling to provide everything you need for your growing family.

We will strive to bring our community together and support local families when they need it most.

How It Works:

Donations

As well as financial donations, we collect new and good quality second hand donations of baby items (from our wish list). All donated items should be clean and in fantastic condition. Donations are checked, sorted and stored.

Referrals

Access to the baby bank is via third party referral from a professional working alongside the family. When we receive a referral we aim to meet the request with our stock of donated items which are then lovingly picked and packed.

Distribution

Once ready, the bundles are collected either by the referral partner or the family themselves from the Didcot Baptist Church on Wantage Road on a Tuesday or Friday between 11am - 1pm.

Sustainability

As well as helping families within our community, we champion sustainability and protecting our environment.

By collecting hundreds of items that are no longer required and directing them to local people in need, we are reducing the amount of items going to landfill which has a positive impact on our planet.
